As a passionate advocate and pioneer in the luxury Cannabis space, I wanted to share some of my journey with this incredible plant.
In 2016, I took the leap and created my all natural cosmetic and skin care company with no parabens, harsh chemicals or any of the harmful complex ingredients that no one can pronounce- and I worked with top chemists and formulators to create a cutting edge catalog of products. Simultaneously, I began to make a major lifestyle change, doing yoga daily, I became vegan, and I started digging deeper into my own research for natural healing alternatives. It really hit home when my youngest sister got her second concussion while training for her horseback riding competition. She had severe swelling of the brain, needed months of physical therapy, stayed in a dark room, lost years of memory, and lived in excruciating pain from head trauma. It didn’t take long for me to uncover the truth about Cannabis – and, like an answered prayer, we watched as these plant extractions not only relieved her symptoms, but also removed inflammation and healed the injury at the source. Up until that point I had been familiar with Cannabis, but was unaware to the enormity of what these terpenes really do on a molecular level to heal.
First, let’s just cover a few basics…
There are two types of Cannabis. Sativa is more mind dominant and uplifting, whereas Indica is body dominant and helps to calm you. Within both of these types, there are hundreds upon hundreds of different strains. Cannabis flowers secrete a chemical compound called cannabinoids, which relieve symptoms of inflammation, pain, anxiety and nausea. By imitating compounds that our bodies naturally produce, called endocannabinoids, they work their medicinal magic to maintain optimal health and internal stability. To simply explain this complex system, the endocannbinoids mediate communication between cells and alarm us when there is a deficiency.
CBD (cannabinoid Cannabidiol) is an effective treatment and in most cases, the cure, for killing cancer cells, diabetes, Crohns disease, gout, glaucoma, opioid dependence, epilepsy, inflammation, asthma, anorexia, adrenal disease, alzheimers, dementia, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, depression, anxiety and so much more.
Hemp is the #1 most sustainable super-crop, and refers to strains of Cannabis sativa that have been bred specifically for fiber that is used for clothing, construction, oils, nutritional benefits and a wide and growing variety of other purposes. Neither Hemp nor CBD involve intoxication from THC (cannabinoid Tetrahydrocannabinol), have zero psychedelic effects, and recently became legal across the country.
Hemp and CBD have become a major part of my every day life. I start my morning with hemp protein smoothies (which I will soon share in another article), add hemp hearts to my meals, and religiously use the oils.
What can it do for your skin?
Hemp seed oil is perfectly suited for skin and hair alike. Its nutritional value, combined with moisturizing and replenishing EFA’s (Essential Fatty Acids), make it one of the best vegetable body care foundations. Hemp seed oil’s EFA complement includes polyunsaturated fatty acids, omega-3, omega-6, omega-9, linoleic acid, and GLA’s (Gamma Linoleic Acids). Hemp is one of very few plants that produce GLA’s in their natural oil and these acids are extremely effective in skin care maintenance. Hemp is also rich in vitamins A and E, and contains trace amounts of important minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium and phosphorus. It is also high in antioxidants, which are elements that prevent or decrease cell damage. Because of this property, many believe that the regular application of hemp oil slows the aging of the skin. Hemp oil is also a great source of vitamin D, allowing the absorption of calcium that is needed for soft, smooth skin.
CBD is used to treat a multitude of skin conditions as well, from the relatively minor – dry skin, psoriasis, dermatitis, rosacea, acne – to serious skin cancers. Offering cannabis-based skin care products utilizing hemp and CBD will revolutionize the beauty industry as well as the healthcare industry. Skin is the largest organ of the body, and people around the world are craving honest products that will get them real results. Once I had the knowledge of how wonderful this plant is, my mission became to share it with the world and create a collection that will heal people from the outside in.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I am beyond thrilled to release my product line in the coming months, and look forward to connecting with all of you!
